Spectacular

The Tour de France, a cycling icon, has become one of the best-known sports events in the world. Editing Joan Colomo’s song “Espectacular” (Disco Triste, B-Core disco, 2021) with film footage of the 1953 tour, Tanoca’s music video recreates the spectacular nature of this sports event in a piece of rhythmic animation through an abstract France. Using traditional processes, the music video was built from photocopied stills, watercolours, cut-outs, scans and digital editing. The original images are taken from the film Tour de France 1953 (Haghefilm, 1953), provided by the Eye Filmmuseum of Netherlands, and document the first Tour won by Louison Bobet, thereby initiating the milestone of being the first rider to win three consecutive yellow jerseys.
