Directors and Producers Fill Friday’s Sessions with Their Stories of Overcoming Challenges

Today, Friday, February 21st, the BCN Sports Film Festival has experienced an exciting and emotional day, with documentaries capturing the beauty of nature and the indomitable spirit of humanity. The audience has had the opportunity to enjoy unforgettable moments of overcoming personal limits, sport, and nature. Below we summarize the most notable sessions of today.

Flying over Montserrat: Passion and Adrenaline with Wingsuit and Extreme Climbing

The day started with two spectacular projections dedicated to Montserrat, one of Catalonia’s most iconic locations. In First Try – A flight through Montserrat and Montserrat, Integral 107, the audience experienced firsthand the thrill of flying through Montserrat’s skies with wingsuit and climbing the famous 107 needles of the massif.

 

The protagonists of the films, Biel Macià (director of Montserrat 107), Enric Vilajosana (one of the protagonists), and Armando Oquendo (director of First Try), were present in the session to share their experiences and the challenges they faced while shooting these extreme adventures.

Earth, Fire, Water and Air: Nature as a Source of Personal Renewala

Next, the session “Earth, Fire, Water and Air” took the audience into a full immersion in nature, highlighting the emotional connection many of us feel in the face of natural elements. Documentaries such as In-between, Fuego, Néou muga, and Girls Move Mountains explored stories of personal transformation and overcoming through adventure sports. Especially Girls Move Mountains, a piece that speaks both about women’s rights and how older generations inspire the younger ones to create a slightly fairer world.

 

Its director, Anna Huix, attended the session, sharing her passion for the sport and the way she wanted to convey this message through cinema.

All About Sports: Human Creativity and Nature in Perfect Harmony

The session “All About Sports” showcased the fascinating relationship between human creativity and nature. Documentaries such as 4Caves – 4Seasons: Journey into the veins of the earth and Aquaballet captured the beauty of natural landscapes and how these environments inspire human creativity. In particular, La Gran Hazaña highlighted the challenges of mountain biking in extreme conditions.

 

Directors Luber Yesid Zuñiga Ordoñez and Jorge Yesidt Vela Forigua were present to share the challenges they faced while filming this impactful documentary. Nikolas Margaritis, director of 4Caves, was also present to explain how he captured the magic of those fascinating underground spots.

Inner Balance: Emotional Overcoming through Climbing and Artistic Skating

The day concluded with “Inner Balance”, a session that explored the emotional and psychological challenges of climbing and artistic skating. With Trad and El Gran Xou, the audience discovered how these sports go beyond physical limits, becoming an inner journey of overcoming. The protagonists face their fears and insecurities to achieve excellence. 

 

Executive producers Eric Jiménez and Ricard Planiol, artistic director of the Olot Artistic Skating Club, were present to talk about the creation process of this documentary and how they managed to capture the emotion and passion of the skating world.
