Women directors, mountains and inner strength: BCN Sports Film Festival enjoys a Wednesday of brave stories
BCN Sports Film Festival has experienced today, Wednesday 25 February, a day split between Barcelona and Sant Joan Despí with a clear common thread: stories that push us to keep moving forward—whether through collective effort, the creative perspective behind the camera, or physical challenges at the limit.
Olympic Museum | “Screen & Sport: Stories II”: cinema and sport as a shared language
The afternoon started at the Joan Antoni Samaranch Olympic and Sports Museum with Screen & Sport: Stories II, bringing together emotion and a human perspective through the screening of Game On: Hoops and Dreams in Rural China.
Olympic Museum | “Chasing Dreams”: perseverance, diversity and hope
Next, the museum hosted Chasing Dreams, a session that celebrates perseverance and the fight to achieve goals, with stories where sport becomes a meeting point, a source of identity and an opportunity.
Cinemes Girona | “Women Direct”: with a talk — the female gaze in sports audiovisual storytelling
One of the highlights of the day took place at Cinemes Girona with Women Direct, a session that champions the talent and sensitivity of women filmmakers in sports cinema.
After the screenings, the session continued with the talk “Directing, producing and changing the game: the female gaze in sports audiovisual storytelling”, featuring Mireia Vicente (director of El mètode Fuentes), Trini Gutiérrez (director of El Grand Show) and Cristina Malo (director of Playing field), moderated by Josep Maria Farràs (Head of Sports Broadcasts and Sports Programming at 3Cat).
Institut Français | “Le saut invisible”: growing, falling and starting again
In parallel, the Institut Français de Barcelona hosted Le saut invisible, a session gathering stories about youth and learning—the moment when effort becomes identity and sport becomes a way to find your place.
Teatre Mercè Rodoreda (Sant Joan Despí) | “Extreme Horizons”, with the director in attendance
The festival also travelled to Sant Joan Despí with Extreme Horizons, a session exploring the connection with nature and the search for personal limits through mountain, snow and adventure sports.
The screening featured Kevin McDevitt, director of Bike Short, accompanied by members of the team.
Cinemes Girona | “Inner Strength”, with the director in attendance
The day closed at Cinemes Girona with Inner Strength, a session that dives into the invisible energy that drives us to keep going even when everything feels heavy: courage, difficult decisions and battles often fought away from the spotlight.
The session welcomed Irving Serrano, director of Las voces del despeñadero, who shared insights from behind the production.
