15th Edition of the BCN Sports Film Festival Officially Presented

From February 17 to 25, the BCN Sports Film Festival 2025 arrives in Barcelona. The presentation of this new edition took place during a virtual press conference, presided over by David Escudé, President of the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica and Councilor for Sports of the Barcelona City Council. The event also featured the presence of Francesc Terrón, Director of the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica, and Agustí Argelich, Director of the BCN Sports Film Festival 2025.

The 15th edition of the BCN Sports Film Festival will feature 81 free audiovisual productions across nine different venues. This year, in addition to the venues in Barcelona, the Girona venue remains, and the Teatre Mercè Rodoreda in Sant Joan Despí has been added. All sessions will be available in a hybrid format, both in-person and online.

Through the official website, you can reserve your tickets for free. Access is completely free; you only need to request your ticket in advance.

The virtual sessions can be viewed on the FESTHOME platform: tv.festhome.com/festival/bcn-sports-film, by requesting a free ticket directly on the platform.

During the event, the festival’s educational role was highlighted, particularly through its school sessions. These sessions use sports films to teach essential values. This edition features six different sessions, each tailored to specific age groups and supported by educational materials developed by FilmClub. They will be available until March 30.

As in previous years, the BCN Sports Film Festival also works with educators from Catalan penitentiary centers. This year, Laura Ester, one of the world’s most accomplished water polo players, participated as an ambassador and visited Brians 1. During her visit, she spoke with inmates about the challenges of elite sports, the sacrifices and lessons learned, and the emotional difficulties of transitioning to a new life after professional competition.

Additionally, Francesc Terrón, Director of the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica, highlighted the record number of film submissions, the diverse venues, and the exciting program of this year’s festival. He also expressed gratitude to the various sports, cultural, and justice departments, as well as to sponsors, collaborators, and media outlets for their support.

This year, the festival will also feature two special sessions. The first is a roundtable discussion at the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch, in collaboration with Productors Audiovisuals de Catalunya (PAC). This session will explore various distribution strategies available to independent filmmakers, with the participation of industry professionals. The second is the “The Therapy of Sport” session, which highlights how sports and competition can serve as powerful tools for emotional resilience and personal growth. The screening will be followed by a roundtable discussion featuring experts from sports, science, and film.

Finally, Agustí Argelich, Director of the BCN Sports Film Festival, emphasized the international reach of the festivaland its steady growth in recent years. He encouraged audiences to register through the official website for both in-person and virtual sessions.

The festival will also host Q&A sessions with directors, producers, and actors, offering audiences a unique opportunity to engage with the 81 selected films and their creators.
