We bring the curtain down on the 16th edition of the BCN Sports Film Festival… thank you for making it possible!
The 16th edition of the BCN Sports Film Festival has come to an end after nine days of screenings (23 February to 3 March 2026). From the festival team, we would like to thank participants, partners, sponsors, media, audiences and guests, and everyone whose effort and dedication made this edition possible.
We close the doors with emotion and the feeling that, once again, we have shared a space where cinema and sport meet to talk about values, culture and community. This year, the festival received 3,200 films from 91 countries and programmed 85 productions from 30 countries, structured across 39 sessions.
Screenings took place across the festival’s venues: the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch, Cinemes Girona, INEFC Barcelona, Institut Français de Barcelona, Centre Cívic Cotxeres de Sants, Centre Cívic Bon Pastor, Ateneu de Sant Just Desvern, EUSES – Campus de Salt, Teatre Mercè Rodoreda (Sant Joan Despí) and Cinemes Imperial (Club Natació Sabadell), as well as screenings in correctional facilities and within the educational programme.
The festival remains committed to education: this year, in-person school sessions brought sports cinema to more than 1,400 students from 27 schools, and the online school sessions remain available until 30 March.
We also strengthened the festival’s social dimension with screenings in correctional facilities. As part of this programme, Núria Castán visited Brians 1 to take part in a post-screening talk after Inner Fight, opening a dialogue on resilience, fear management and personal rebuilding.
Beyond the screen, the BCN Sports Film Festival expanded the experience with a programme of parallel activities to talk and dive deeper into the themes explored in the films. These included: the PAC industry session with Cristina Calvet and Elisa Berger, moderated by Eva Fontanals; “El valor del equipo” with Laura Ester, Martina Terre and Marcelí Massafret, coordinated by Matilde Ortiz; “Olas de cambio” with Carlos Sánchez Llibre, Philippe Mistral and Gerard Esteva, coordinated by Mariana Dornelles; “Laure: salud mental y privacidad” with María Teresa Pérez, Dennis González and Raül Romeva; “Ellas dirigen” with Mireia Vicente, Trini Gutiérrez and Cristina Malo, coordinated by Josep Maria Farràs (3Cat); and the “Mother & Footballer” talk with Ona Carbonell and Francesc Terrón.
Congratulations to all the awarded films—especially “Las voces del despeñadero”, directed by Irving Serrano, the winner of this 16th edition.
Every session, every film and every meeting helped make this edition a resounding success. From the moving opening ceremony to the screening of the award-winning films in “And the winners are”, every moment has been a celebration of creativity, talent and passion for cinema and sport.
Thank you for making this 16th edition possible.
We look forward to seeing you at the next edition with more cinema, more sport and more stories that leave a mark.
