Intense day with a great variety of sessions at the BCN Sports Film Festival!

Thursday has been a vibrant day at the BCN Sports Film Festival, with a great diversity of sessions attended by a large number of directors and production teams. In addition, two special sessions were screened: “Match Point” at the Reial Club de Tennis Barcelona – 1899 to celebrate its 125th anniversary; and “Starboard!” at the Barcelona Nautical Capital Foundation, paying tribute to the 37th edition of the America’s Cup that will arrive in Barcelona in 2024.

 

At 4pm at the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch, “With Pride” kicked off, exploring the impact of sport on society. Jade Ang Jackman, director of “Speed of Sound”, shared with the audience not only the creative process behind her film, but also the deep emotional connection that inspired her to tell this unique and moving story.

 

One of the special sessions took place at 5pm at the Reial Club de Tennis Barcelona – 1899 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the club. Tennis enthusiasts were able to immerse themselves in the “Match Point” session, highlighting the close relationship between this sport and the world of art. 

 

The fascinating world of boxing was the protagonist at 17.30h in “The last evening” at the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch, where the harsh reality of the life of a champion was shown. Ashley Morrison, director of “Return to Your Corner”, captivated the audience with an account of the challenges faced during the making of this play and the harsh reality of Battling Siki, the first African world boxing champion. 

 

Sailing took center stage with the session “To Starboard!” at 6.30pm at the Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica, immersing the audience in an exciting journey across the sea. This session paid tribute to the America’s Cup, the most important competition in the world of sailing, which was founded in 1851 and this 2024 comes to Barcelona with its 37th edition.The event was attended by Ignasi Armengol, general director of the Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica (FBCN); Coloma Serra, director of communication of the FBCN; and Rafael Figuerola, president of the Club Patí Vela Barcelona

 

We defy limits with stories of courage and determination in “No limits” at 19h at Cinemes Girona. Javier Álvaro Palomares, director of “La Huella de Karim”, offered an intimate look at the creation of his film, sharing the most emotional and challenging moments of his cinematic journey.

 

Time for MUHBA Bon Pastor, where vintage soccer came to life at 7pm with “Without VAR”, transporting spectators to a bygone era full of emotion and passion for the beautiful game. Monica Regàs and Christian Paureilhe, production team of “We are red star”, and Luis Gagnolo, director of “Los Fabriqueros”, shared anecdotes and reflections about their productions, giving way to the secrets behind these fascinating soccer stories.

 

The day culminated with “Unstoppable Minds” at 9pm at Cinemes Girona, a session that explored the true strength of the human spirit in sports. Catalina Kulczar, director of “Daisy”, shared with the audience the inspiration behind her film and the importance of resilience in life and sport, leaving everyone with a message of hope and determination.

 

Despite ending one of the most intense days of the festival, the BCN Sports Film Festival will continue to offer more screenings and unique experiences until Tuesday, February 27th.
