Legal keys to creating a documentary: free PAC session at the BCN Sports Film Festival

The 16th edition of the BCN Sports Film Festival features a must-attend session for filmmakers, producers, and audiovisual professionals: “How to legally approach the audiovisual creation of a documentary?” A practical activity organised in collaboration with PAC to answer common questions and help you work with legal certainty throughout the entire creative process.

Creative decisions… and legal ones too

Making a documentary involves many storytelling decisions, but also legal considerations that are important to clarify from the start. This session offers a clear, actionable overview of the main legal aspects of audiovisual production: from developing the project to the use of recorded footage, archive photographs, and pre-existing works, with useful tools to work safely and responsibly. It will also cover the fundamental rights involved in documentary filmmaking—such as the right to honour/reputation, personal and family privacy, and the right to information—along with other common legal issues that arise during the creative process.

BCN Sports Film Festival held today, Wednesday 25 February, the parallel activity “Women Direct” at Cinemes Girona, a session that champions the talent of women filmmakers and their ability to broaden —and transform— the way we watch sport on screen. When they look, sport changes Through the screenings, the session brought together stories that move beyond clichés and focus on nuances often left out: process, context, vulnerability, relationships, and the questions that arise when sport becomes identity, work, pressure or refuge. Directing, producing and changing the game: a dialogue on how stories are told (and who tells them) After the screenings, the session continued with the talk “Directing, producing and changing the game: the female gaze in sports audiovisual storytelling”, a space to discuss craft, creation and role models —from how point of view is chosen to the challenges of filming in high-performance environments. BCN Sports Film Festival held today in Sabadell the parallel activity “Laure: Mental Health and Privacy”, a session focusing on a reality that is increasingly present in high-performance sport: the pressure of external scrutiny, media exposure, and the impact it can have on emotional wellbeing.
