Teamwork, sustainability and mental health: the festival experiences a Tuesday of must-have conversations between Barcelona and Sabadell
BCN Sports Film Festival has enjoyed today, Tuesday 24 February, an especially full day, with venues in Barcelona and Sabadell and three major themes running throughout: how a team is built from the inside, our relationship with the sea and the climate emergency, and the pressure of media exposure in high-performance sport.
INEFC | “The Value of the Team”: what you don’t see inside a locker room
The morning began at INEFC with The Value of the Team, a session focused on shared leadership, empathy and the weight of roles throughout an athletic career.
After the screening, the talk brought together Olympic water polo champions Maica García and Martina Terre, alongside Marcelí Massafret (coach and team manager), moderated by Matilde Ortiz. A direct conversation about balancing youth and experience, starter/substitute dynamics and cohesion when the goal is shared.
Olympic Museum | “Screen & Sport: Stories I”: a human взгляд through cinema
In the afternoon, the Olympic and Sports Museum hosted Screen & Sport: Stories I, a session bringing together stories where sport becomes a driver of emotion, transformation and personal storytelling.
Cinemes Girona | “Inspiring Perspectives”: diversity, emotion and a social lens
Next, Cinemes Girona welcomed audiences with Inspiring Perspectives, a session that combines disciplines and human stories to remind us that sport is also lived —and shared— through everyday and collective experiences.
Olympic Museum | “Waves of Change”: cinema and conversation to talk about the sea (and action)
One of the key moments of the day came with Waves of Change, a session inviting us to dive into our relationship with the sea and the environmental challenges it faces.
After the screening, the discussion connected cinema, sport and environmental commitment with Carlos Sánchez-Llibre (director of Sense timó. Per un mar lliure de plàstics), Philippe Mistral (director of Banda), Gerard Esteva (President of UFEC) and moderated by Mariana Dornelles (Fundació Carulla).
Sabadell | “Laure: Mental Health and Privacy”: when performance meets exposure
In parallel, Cines Imperial (Sabadell) hosted Laure: Mental Health and Privacy, based on the documentary Laure! Laure! Laure!, an intimate portrait of pressure, fame and the search for balance between the person and the public persona.
The post-screening talk opened space to discuss media exposure, identity and psychological wellbeing with María Teresa Pérez (Vidal i Barraquer Foundation), Dennis González (artistic swimmer) and Raül Romeva (researcher in sport and values).
The event opened with welcome remarks by Montse González, Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Sports at Sabadell City Council, ahead of the screening and the talk. In addition, Francesc Terrón, president of the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica, and Claudi Martí, president of Club Natació Sabadell, were also in attendance.
The day also continued at other venues
Tuesday’s programme also included screenings at Centre Cívic Cotxeres de Sants (Segundas oportunidades), the Institut Français de Barcelona (Le battement du Tour), and a closing session at Cinemes Girona with Sueños y retos.
