The 14th edition of the BCN Sports Film Festival kicks off!

The Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch has hosted the Opening Ceremony of the BCN Sports Film Festival 2024. The event was presided over by David Escudé, president of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation and sports councilor of the Barcelona City Council.

The opening ceremony of the 14th edition of the BCN Sports Film Festival, presented by TV3 journalist Mireia Vicente, began with a welcome speech by David Escudé, president of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation and sports councilor of the Barcelona City Council, who thanked the attendees for their presence.

Among the different personalities who attended the event were Francesc Terrón, director of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation; Franco Ascani, president of the Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs; Juli Pernas, patron of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation and member of the executive committee of the Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs; María Teresa Samararanch, patron of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation; Eduard Inglés, director of the Institut Nacional d’Educació Física de Catalunya on behalf of the Generalitat de Catalunya; and Susana Closa, manager of the Institut Barcelona Esports.

During the ceremony, the winner of the new edition of the SpotSport contest, Pau Albà, was awarded the prize by Àlex Bescós, marketing director of the newspaper SPORT. The SpotSport contest aims to help the promotion and support of talents through the production of an advertising video for this new edition of the Festival. The winning spot “Cinètica de l’Esport” has been produced by Pau Albà. Under his personal project, Tanoca, he has created musical compositions and several videographic projects, experimenting with the music video format and presenting his works in festivals around the world.

Once again, the BCN Sports Film has wanted to recognize personalities or entities from the world of sports that have left their mark and have been references in the promotion of sport and its values. This year this recognition has been for two entities. On the one hand, David Escudé presented the commemorative trophy to Josep Jordi Cambra, president of the Reial Club de Tennis Barcelona -1899 for the celebration of its 125th anniversary. On the other hand, tribute has been paid to the America’s Cup, the most important competition in the sailing world, which was founded in 1851 and this 2024 comes to Barcelona with its 37th edition. The trophy was collected by Aurora Catà, representing the America’s Cup.

Agustí Argelich, artistic director of the BCN Sports Film Festival, highlighted the quality of the 81 productions selected this year and the values they transmit. As well as the spirit of self-improvement, companionship, enthusiasm and integration, among others, and also the international character of the festival. Argelich gave way to Biel Macià, director and co-star of Santorini, el paradís del parkour, David Escobar, also co-star, and Álex Miñarro, director of El juego de su vida, to present their works.

Finally, a selection of productions was screened to give those attending the inauguration a first taste of the audiovisuals that will be shown at the Festival’s different venues.

The program of the BCN Sports Film Festival includes 81 films distributed in 25 different sessions. One of the novelties this year is that the festival will not only be screened at venues in Barcelona, but will also have a session in Girona and another at the Spanish Olympic Committee in Madrid; thus, a total of 12 venues will participate in this 14th edition.

All the sessions of the festival are free of charge and have a mixed format to adapt to the needs of the public. On the one hand, the on-site format, through which you can follow the sessions that make up the program in the 12 different venues. On the other hand, a virtual format in which the screenings can be watched through the Festhome and Filmin platforms. In both cases it will be necessary to book the ticket through the festival’s official website: www.bcnsportsfilm.org

A unique opportunity to enjoy sport in its most artistic essence!
